Last night in Adelaide, Christchurch’s Dominic Reed lost a close decision to Australian Nick Keros for the IKBF 62kg South Pacific championship. The fight was a rematch of their first fight in November 2019, where Reed took the decision victory.
The two men are evenly matched, with the first fight being a razor-close decision which both men thought they had won. In last night’s fight, the first four rounds were extremely close. Both men had their moments of success, but with neither dominating any of the rounds to the point that they were the clear winner.
In the fifth round, however, Reed started to pull away, landing several flashy techniques including several elbows and a jumping scissor knee to the head of Keros. At the end of the fight, the commentary team had no idea who the judges were going to award the fight to.
Despite Reed winning the fifth round, the judges had given at least three of the first four rounds to Nick Keros, who took the unanimous decision to become the new South Pacific IKBF Full Thai Champion.
Given how close both fights have been, it seems likely that we will see the two men fight once more in a rubber match, to put their rivalry to rest permanently.
Dominic Reed will return to the ring on Saturday, March 14th when he takes on surging Australian youngster Brandon Spain at Powerplay Promotions 42 at the Melbourne Pavilion.
