VIDEO: Hooker says Gaethje or Poirier next

After his epic win in the main event of UFC Auckland on Sunday, Dan Hooker was interviewed on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.

Ariel started by asking Hooker if he was ok following the fight.

“Nah I’m good. We both went to the hospital and got checked out.

“Nothing broken, just a few bumps and bruises. I should be back at training by the end of the week.”

Ariel asked Hooker if he thought he had won the fight.

“It’s hard at the time, you’re in the fight. You can’t be focused on counting points or how a fight is being judged. You’re more trying to look for ways to finish your opponent and focusing on the strategy.

“I thought I controlled most of the fight and was pretty confident.”

Official UFC scorecards for Felder vs Hooker on Sunday

When asked his feelings about the voices saying that Felder should have won, Hooker stated the following:

“He’s a tough guy. It took time. I had to play it smart.

“You fry fish, you don’t fry brisket. Paul Felder is brisket, you gotta slow cook him.”

When asked about the moment that he and Paul Felder shared at the hospital, Hooker had this to say:

It was funny, they held me back at the entrance, saying that my opponent was in there.

“One of my coaches, Karl Webber, he was outside at the time, and he was like ‘wheel them in. Those guys are best mates now’.

“They wheeled us in. He asked about my daughter, I asked about his daughter. Then we just wished each other well for the future. There was no animosity, no hard feelings.

“From now until the day that we die, me and Paul Felder have each other’s respect.”

When asked why he called out Justin Gaethje in his post-fight speech, Hooker stated:

“He’s just an exciting guy, you know. Six fights, six bonuses. It’s something that intrigues me.

“But it looks like him and Conor are gonna go. If I was Cono,r I would take the Gaethje fight too, you know.

“That’s an incredibly exciting fight if he wants to stay busy. But, if Gaethje is busy, then Poirier is the man. Either Gaethje or Poirier, those are the only two options that make sense to me.”
