Hooker in the UFC top 5

Dan Hooker has cracked the UFC top-five in the newest rankings update released this morning.

With his win over then number six-ranked Paul Felder last Saturday, New Zealand’s Dan Hooker has broken into the division top-five, leapfrogging Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone to take the number five spot.

Paul Felder slipped to number seven after the loss, with Cerrone above him at number six.

This should mark Hooker’s proximity to a Lightweight title shot, although the scheduled Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov bout on April 18th means he will likely face one more opponent in the interim.

This is likely to be either Dustin Poirier or Dustin Gaethje, ranked two and three respectively. Hooker famously called Poirier out on Twitter following his win over Al Iaquinta. Poirier told him he had to keep working and win some more fights.

While it is rumoured that Justin Gaethje vs Conor McGregor is in the works, nothing is official yet. While Cerrone hasn't put his hand up yet and is coming off three TKO losses in a row, Donald Cerrone vs Dan Hooker would be a heck of a fight, too.

Fight News will keep you updated on matchups in the UFC Lightweight division in the coming months.
